He graduated from Mangalore University with a B.E. degree in Civil Engineering in 1990, followed by a Master's degree in Structural Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1992. He earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2002. With over three decades of academic, research, and professional experience, he has made significant contributions to the fields of structural engineering and construction materials. He began his professional career as a Design Consultant with M/S Gammon India Ltd. from August 1990 to December 1990. Following the completion of his master's degree, he served as an Assistant Lecturer at BITS Pilani from December 1992 to September 1994. He subsequently joined the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jalandhar, where he worked as a Lecturer from September 1994 to March 2000 and as a Senior Lecturer from March 2000 to May 2005. In May 2005, he joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee as an Assistant Professor and has been serving as a Professor since 2019. He was also awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Postdoctoral Fellowship and worked at the Materials and Engineering Research Institute, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, United Kingdom, from October 2011 to March 2012. His research interests include reinforced cement concrete, construction materials, sustainable construction, rheology of concrete, recycled aggregates, self-compacting concrete, and 3D printable concrete. He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of the journal *Low-carbon Materials and Green Construction*.
He graduated from Jadavpur University with a B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering in 2010, followed by an M.Tech. in Structural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, in 2012. He earned his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from IISc Bangalore in 2018. With extensive academic and industrial experience in structural engineering, he worked as an Associate Engineer (Stress Analysis) at Airbus Engineering Centre India, Bangalore, from 2012 to 2013. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he served as an institute research associate at IISc Bangalore from 2017 to 2018. He subsequently joined Texas A&M University, USA, as a postdoctoral research associate.
His research interests encompass multiscale mechanics of bio-inspired heterogeneous architected composites, mechanics of 3D-printed structures and components, application of machine learning and reduced-order modelling in multiscale mechanics, physics-based modelling of ductile and brittle damage, peridynamics and generalized continuum modelling, and efficient computational modelling of fire-induced structural damage.
Prof. Dr. Inka Mai studied Industrial and Civil Engineering in Braunschweig (Germany), Gothenburg (Sweden), and Rhode Island (USA). From 2013 to 2018, she pursued her doctoral studies at the Institute of Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety at Technische Universität Braunschweig. Following her PhD, she served as a Group Leader for “Rheology and Digital Fabrication,” where she conducted pioneering research on cementitious materials and additive manufacturing technologies. She further enhanced her expertise through a research stay in Brittany, France. In 2023, she was appointed Junior Professor and Chair of Robot-Assisted Manufacturing of the Built Environment at Technische Universität Berlin. Her research interests include rheology of cement-based materials, 3D concrete printing, digital fabrication, robotic construction, concrete pumping processes, and sustainable construction technologies. She has received several prestigious awards for her contributions to the field, including the Klaus Dyckerhoff Young Investigator Award.
